In recognition of America Saves Week this week I am hosting a giveaway each day until Sunday, February 26. Today you have a chance to win a copy of The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey.

In The Total Money Makeover, Dave Ramsey shares stories of readers who have dug their way out of debt. He also discusses his Seven Baby Steps for people to take to get out of debt and stay out of debt.

The Seven Baby Steps are
Save $1,000 Cash As A Starter Emergency Fund
Start the Debt Snowball
Finish the Emergency Fund
Invest 15 percent of your Income in Retirement
Save for College
Pay Off Your Home Mortgage
Build Wealth

I feel it is a great resource if you trying to get out of debt and also a refresher if you are out of debt and want to stay that way.

To enter the drawing leave a comment with your email thru midnight today. I will contact the winner to get their mailing address.

A few weeks ago I wrote a post about an upcoming Dave Ramsey Simulcast event. The regular price for tickets is $39, but thru the weekend they are offering 2 tickets for $25 with the code TWOFOR25 at Dave Ramsey’s website.

The event will be Saturday, March 17, 2012 and the local host is Bethel Church in Fargo. It runs from 11:45 am – 5:00 pm CT.

I have been to other events by Dave Ramsey and used to watch his television show quite a bit.

I feel it is a source of great information if you are trying to get your finances in order or just as a refresher if you feel you are in control of your finances.

There will be a Total Money Makeover LIVE! Simulcast by Dave Ramsey on Saturday, March 17 2012 from 11:45 am to 5:00 pm CT. The Fargo site is Bethel Church at 2702 30th Ave S, Fargo. You can check the website for other locations around the country.

Tickets for the event are $39 and for a limited time they are Buy One Get One Free.

I have been to other Simulcast events by Dave Ramsey and enjoyed them.

Some topics to be covered are Dave’s State of the Economy, Beat Debt Once and For All, Retire with Dignity, Preparing for Your Children’s Future and Wealth is a Blessing.

The simulcast would be a great way either to get started on getting control of your finances or a way to stay on track.

UPDATE: Today’s book has already been claimed. I have decided the rest of the days, if you leave a comment, I will randomly select a person to receive the book. Then I will email you for your address.

Today is the first day of my 7-day book giveaway. I will be giving away a book to the first person to email me at nancy@in-theblack.net. In your email, include your mailing address.

In a recent post, JD from Get Rich Slowly wrote about why Financial Literacy Fails. I have written several posts about the importance of financial literacy. But as JD writes, besides knowing how to manage your finances you also need to learn how to behave with money.

Many people realize they are purchasing things they can’t afford, but the urge to purchase the item is sometimes stronger than the willpower of not buying it.

One of the authors I have blogged about several times is Dave Ramsey. He has several of his books and other products on sale now, many as low as $10. I have some of his books on hand along with other products if you are looking for ideas for gift giving. Along with the books I also have Money Savvy Banks. I have pig banks in a few different colors and football banks. I also have coin flash cards and a Kids and Money calendar I put together.

A friend of mine purchased three copies of Dave Ramsey’s book, The Total Money Makeover for her teenage and college age kids for Christmas. She mentioned it to her teenage son and he wasn’t too impressed with the idea until she said which book it was. It turns out they are going through Dave Ramsey’s program as part of their math class and he is getting interested in investing and other topics.
