The Costco store in our area opened almost a year ago, but I have not been there yet. Since I live alone, I don’t feel shopping at bulk buying stores works for me. I have a Sam’s membership that I got a deal on but I don’t use it very often with the deals I can get at other stores and since I don’t need to purchase items in large quantities. But for larger families it can be a way to save money on groceries and other items.

There have been a couple of recent posts about shopping at Costco.

Erin Chase is an author of cookbooks on making meals for $5 and under. She recently did a shopping trip and meal plan to make 20 meals for $150 from Costco. In the post she lays out the ingredients you need to purchase at Costco and recipes for the 20 meals.

There was also a reader submitted post on about how her family saves about $2,000 a year by shopping at Costco.

Shopping at bulk stores can save money but you also need to keep an eye on your budget and make sure you are not just buying things because they seem like a great deal.
