It’s hard to believe, but school will be starting in about a month. Following are a couple opportunities available to help families that have difficulty purchasing items their kids may need for school.

The 15th Annual United Way of Cass-Clay School Supply Drive is collecting school supplies thru Friday, August 2.

You can drop off donations at West Acres Shopping Center, Gate City Bank (all locations), Moorhead Center Mall, Wal-Mart (all locations), First International Bank and Trust (all locations) and United Way of Cass Clay (219 7th St S, Fargo).

You can download a list of supplies that they request on the website. Monetary donations can be mailed to UWCC, PO Box 1609, Fargo, ND 58107 or dropped at the United Way office. The website also contains information on volunteer opportunities and registration forms to receive school supplies.

Supplies are available for students residing in and attending K-12 in Cass or Clay Counties. Distribution will be on Saturday, August 10 from 8 am – 11:30 am at the FargoDome and Tuesday, August 13 from 4-7:00 pm at the FargoDome. Students and families needing supplies must have a form of ID for each child and a completed registration form. Registration forms will be available on the site the day of distribution.

The YWCA Cass Clay is hosting sponsor a student. Last year 68 homeless children received a gift bag that included a new outfit, a package of underwear and socks and a pair of shoes in their size.

If you or a group of friends would like to “Sponsor a Student” call the Homeless Student and Study Buddies Coordinator at (701) 232-3449 or email She will email you the gender, age and sizes of a child, and their favorite color and interests. If you do not want to shop for items, gift cards are also welcome.
