We all know that the Friday after Thanksgiving is known as “Black Friday” in shopping terms. But Saturday, November 26 is the 2nd annual Small Business Saturday. It is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses on one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year.
Even though the holiday decorations and sales have been out for a few months already, with Halloween and Thanksgiving done, now people probably feel more compelled to finish their holiday shopping.
Then Monday, November 28 is known as “Cyber Monday”. It is a marketing term for the Monday following Black Friday created by companies to persuade people to do their holiday shopping online. Just as with Black Friday, retailers are offering great deals if you shop online that day.
Even though you may be able to snag great deals with these sales keep in mind what you actually need to purchase. The retailers offer these great deals to get you into the stores hoping that you will purchase other things also. It isn’t such a good deal if you end up purchasing things you may not need.
It is important to remember there is more to the holiday season than gifts and parties. If your circumstances have changed and you need to cut back, it may be easier to make cuts for what you can afford than to go into debt.
As Suze Orman says at the end of all of her shows, “People First, Then Money, Then Things.”
